FAMED NEW YORK MODERN AND INVENTIVE CHINESE RESTAURANT, REDFARM NOW OPEN

Miami Location Marks Fourth U.S. Outpost, Adding to Recently-Opened Austin Location and Two New York City Institutions 

RedFarm, the critically-acclaimed Chinese restaurant renowned for its contemporary cuisine and supercharged dim sum, is slated to open February 27 at 3131 Commodore Plaza in Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood. Helmed by dim sum master chef Joe Ng, Operating Partners Jeffrey and Zach Chodorow, and Director of Operations, Andy Wang, RedFarm brings a greenmarket sensibility to modern and inventive Chinese food. Guests can expect a distinct rendition of celebratory dishes made from thoughtfully selected seasonal ingredients, finely crafted figurative dim sum and warm hospitality welcoming locals and visitors alike, overseen by RedFarm’s Service Director, Jeff Goldin. 

The restaurant began with the late Chinese food expert Ed Schoenfeld’s aspirations to reinvent the Chinese dining scene in New York City more than 13 years ago and quickly gained recognition from restaurant critics such as New York Times’ Pete Wells, who stated “All the flavors have been turned up as high as they can go. The dishes can be salty, or sweet, or rich. Often they are all three at once. At RedFarm, the food goes to 11.”

Widely recognized as one of the country’s best Chinese chefs, RedFarm’s ‘Dim Sum Master’ and Executive Chef, Joe Ng, reimagines the essence of Chinese food with a menu that comes to life through a series of dishes bursting in flavor and creativity. RedFarm’s signature Pac Man Shrimp Dumplings are among the inventive spins on the classics, whimsically presented as a pastel array of caricatures from the nostalgic Pac Man arcade game. Other signature dishes include “Ed’s” Pastrami Egg Rolls; a Hot & Sour Soup that is made-to-order; a fiery Three Chili Chicken; the coveted marinated Creekstone Rib Steak that Time Out named best steak in New York City;and RedFarm’s signature Peking Duck with three sauces and homemade pancakes, named by China’s national broadcaster, Central TV, as the best Peking Duck in the world outside China and has come to be recognized as an emblem of the brand. 

RedFarm brings a greenmarket sensibility to the Chinese culinary experience, a focal point of the brand’s locavore approach to product sourcing, with an unwavering commitment to carefully selecting the ingredients that comprise each dish. The menu also features a variety of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. 

“As a Miami native and resident, I always knew we would bring RedFarm here,” quotes Operating Partner Jeffrey Chodorow, “not only because I’m always craving RedFarm’s dishes—but many of our New York customers spend a lot of time here, or have moved here, and our Miami friends kept asking me when we were going to open here. As a child, I loved hanging out in the Grove, and since its rebirth under Federal Realty’s ownership, the neighborhood feel of the area fits perfectly with RedFarm’s ethos.”

The 7,000-square-foot space was selected and constructed by partner Alex Pirez of Mocca Construction, a major supporter of Coconut Grove’s development, and has been thoughtfully designed by CRÈME/Jun Aizaki Architecture & Design to bring RedFarm’s signature vision to life through modern rustic decor and features that fit seamlessly into the vibrancy of Miami. The spirit of sharing and community is felt throughout the entirety of the restaurant concept, from the family-style food on the menu to the large communal banquet tables with a lazy susan as the centerpiece. The space has 154 seats in its main dining room, 12 bar seats, and two private dining rooms, each featuring a round table for 12 with a large lazy susan. The private dining rooms can also be combined to accommodate parties of up to 24 guests. Al fresco dining will be introduced in the months to come, with an outdoor patio offering an additional 20 seats. 

RedFarm’s striking bar area is illuminated by the classic Duck Decoy neon light, where guests can choose from an array of expertly crafted cocktails by Beverage Director Shawn Chen, who has overseen the brand’s mixology program from inception. Signature cocktails include tequila concoctions like The Club Hot and El Sabio; a house rendition of a Moscow Mule coined Native Highball; and a spin on the espresso martini, Cafe Havana.  A classic Manhattan – each with a namesake inspired by the restaurant’s location – pays homage to Coconut Grove, appropriately named, Manhattan on Commodore

RedFarm Miami is located at 3131 Commodore Plaza, Coconut Grove, FL 33133. The restaurant officially opens its doors to the public on Tuesday, February 27 and seats guests from Tuesday to Sunday (4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday and 4pm to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday). Operating hours will expand to seven days a week to include lunch, Saturday and Sunday brunch, and later hours on weekends. The restaurant will also soon offer takeout and delivery.

ABOUT REDFARM 

RedFarm opened in 2011 at 529 Hudson Street in the West Village.  Located on the parlor floor of an 1828 brownstone, above a basement laundromat, this new 42 seat restaurant from dim sum master chef Joe Ng and the late Chinese food expert Ed Schoenfeld (1949-2002), in partnership with Zach Chodorow and Jeffrey Chodorow of China Grill Management, aimed to be one of the most exciting and influential restaurants in the country. In 2014, RedFarm opened a location on the Upper West Side and the laundromat below the original location became Decoy, a cocktail bar and restaurant that soon became renowned for its Peking Duck dinners. RedFarm opened a location in Austin, TX in 2023, and is opening in Miami’s Coconut Grove in February 2024.
